The Eye of Lužánky, a symbol of contact, focus and observation of sports performance. While offering an excellent view of the whole campus from a height, Velodrom becomes the eye through which people view not only cycling but also the whole landscape through a panoramic eye.
A design with ambition, boldness and dynamic form, emphasis on communal spaces, simple realization, and the closer presentation of an incredible sport to the public. That is the national arena for track cycling and athletics. It holds a certain level of pride, due to which it was designed with an eye-catching form, meant to reflect the internal action. Velodrom is sensitively located in a public space with greenery, which is based on quality access and connection to the public park. The design creates harmony between architecture, the city, and it’s landscape, with emphasis on the effective internal organization, the governability of internal flow of visitors, efficient floorplans, and the use of renewable energy sources.
The urbanistic setting of the building stems from the concept of clear, walkable and welcoming natures of attractive sports campuses with preference for foot traffic. With cooperation from Planýrka park, we craft the public space into green waves, with the center at the Velodram Building. These green waves then create various flows and currents for the differing forms of traffic.
The placement and shape of Velodram holds great respect for the architectural qualities of the Lužánky swimming pool, creating another image of its time with its building’s typology and original shape. The facade is designed as a long lasting and constant feature, which with time, can be replaced with modern photovoltaic panels, which are currently placed on the design’s roof, but in the future can be added onto the facade coat.
