The design of the residential complex harmoniously connects modern architecture with natural features, while the distinctive mass solution respects the surrounding buildings and strengthens community life in the quickly developing Prague district. The key features are the grottos in the courtyard garden, which offer the residents a calm retreat from the rush of the city.
Grotto
The location Na Vackově, connected to the northern side of Malešnická street, is one of the most dynamic and quickly developing Prague districts. Malešnická residence with approximately 25 000 m² of floor space and 290 apartments, has a goal of creating high quality and sustainable residences, which would also support the development of local community. A key feature is the forming of a strong, modern visual identity, inspired by the mountains and their internal caves and grottos. This concept is presented in the design of the city block through the courtyard full of greenery. The closed off Building block creates a protective barrier against the city rush, with the inner courtyard works as a quiet refuge for the residents. Private nooks called grottos are integrated into the building’s mass and provide a space for relaxation and socialization. The courtyard center proudly boasts a tall grove of trees, which contribute to the creation of the building’s own microclimate and removal from the city’s hectic atmosphere.
''Harmony between modern architecture and nature inspired mass. A home with a strong identity."
The design also places emphasis on the quality of public space and strengthening of the city’s character in the area. The basic street layout is preserved yet strengthened with a shopping ground floor. The project creates new pedestrian and cycling routes, enriched with three transverse parks facing the north, connected through a linear park alongside a cycling track. These green corridors not only improve the resident’s quality of life but also support environmental sustainability and biodiversity in a city environment. The parks in contact with streets are improved with strengthened planes, suitable for café and restaurant gardens, creating a lively city space. The publicly accessible parts of the parks are strategically placed in a way that wouldn’t disturb the privacy of the residents, using planted mounds as a natural barrier between public and private spaces.
Overall, our design represents a harmonious blend of modern architecture with natural elements that together create a unique identity for the project.
