A World of Childish Joy

This kindergarten design creates a spacious and safe environment under one roof, surrounded by greenery, where children can freely play, explore, and develop their personalities in harmony with nature.

Under one roof

The design focuses on the world of the youngest aimed to ease and support their discovery of the world. The new kindergarten is conceived as a stable foundation for the development of a child’s personality in a safe and diverse environment. Under one roof, the space opens up into a garden and offers a generous interior where children can move freely, play, and learn in close contact with lush greenery. A barrier between the bustling city and the calm atmosphere of the kindergarten is created through a floor plan that follows the surrounding mature trees and a distinctive roof overhang, which also provides privacy from nearby apartment buildings.

The natural materials used are prominently exposed in the interior spaces as well as in the exterior, enhancing the almost rural character of the place. The interior is connected with the surrounding environment through large fixed-frame glazed surfaces, complemented by operable glazed windows and doors. Ample daylight is provided in all classrooms from two directions, allowing for a choice between direct and diffused interior lighting. Windows on two sides of the room also ensure effective ventilation, especially during the summer months, through the chimney effect.

"The concept under one roof expresses freedom with it's openness towards the garden."

The square floorplan defines the central multifunctional hall interconnected with the southern and eastern façade, whereas the northwest corner houses the technical room. The attic contains the sleeping quarters with access to the roof terrace. A simple and synoptic design allows the educators easy control and comfort of the children in day to day activities. The kindergarten building doesn’t attract attention towards itself, rather it turns it towards the children. It allows them free reign of movement within, while being built for creativity thanks to its surface’s desuing for chalk drawings and expressions of creativity.
