Hotel Na Poříčí revives the large city aesthetic of the street and offers unique a unique work and residential space. The building stands out with its façade of plasticity, which transforms from different viewing angels.
Plasticity
Na Poříčí street in the center of Prague was historically widened thanks to the intentional floorplan retreat of the famous Gočárova Legiobanka, creating a luxurious city road. Despite the representativity of this magnificent street leading from the Republic Square to Těšnov slowly losing shine, the compositional structure of the buildings nevertheless staying visible. Some of the typical features include the high ground floor, separated from the middle floors with a row of windows, from the final retreating floor, all enhanced with varied use of materials.
The decision to apply these street principles in the design of the hotel was completely natural. To restore the metropolitan boulevard on the Těšnov side, it was necessary to create a building with its own personality, specifically designed for this location. Only such a building has a chance to withstand the future and the test of time.
"The plastic shells form a dynamically changing façade."
In the compact development of street fronts, buildings present themselves with only one façade, which contributes to the sculptural appearance of Prague. The hotel façade works with plasticity and Cubist principles, changing its appearance depending on the observer’s viewpoint. Side views are more dynamic than frontal ones, which play a lesser role in the street frontage. The spatial elements of the central part of the façade consist of convex and concave shells made of glass fiber-reinforced concrete, which span the full height of the floor and are set within the traditional Prague composition of vertically aligned window openings.
