An environment that inspires learning and creativity.
The Montessori method helps children learn skills for practical life, explore how things work, create stories, count to infinity and understand the order of things around them.
Window of Opportunity
Understanding the needs of the Montessori approach to education was a key aspect of the design of the educational building. The Montessori method focuses on an individual approach to pupils and supports them on their journey of discovery. Teachers have the ability to inspire a sense of reflection, imagination, understanding and patience. Our indoor spaces are designed to be as flexible as possible so that users can adapt them to their needs, creating a friendly and open school environment in line with the Montessori concept of education. Sustainability is a major theme for the design of the new gymnasium building. The building was designed with respect for its surroundings with a receding mass that creates areas of residential green roofs. The gymnasium fits harmoniously into the surrounding buildings, complementing the urban fabric and offering an efficient use of space. By connecting to the public space to Jílkova Street, it responds by modifying the wider surroundings and cultivating the public spaces. The rational form of the building and the moderate, timeless architecture create the conditions for economical construction.
"Contemporary architecture that offers a flexible environment for individual Montessori approaches."
The gymnasium building and the new sports hall complete the school grounds and are connected to the Duhovka Primary School. The garden of the Duhovka Primary School, which is a key element of the Montessori educational concept for users, is also part of the improvements. This garden is used extensively by the pupils both in and out of school. The proposal includes a complete revitalisation of the garden with the addition of new rest, activity and sports areas. The mass of a sports hall with a residential play area on the roof is embedded in the garden below ground level. The sports hall will be operationally separable and can fully serve the public. The functional and operational layout of both buildings makes the most of all synergies, which contributes to the efficient use of the entire space.
