Prague Ruzyně Airport is preparing for a major transformation aimed at securing its position as a leading aviation and commercial destination in Central Europe. The core of the plan is the development of the Airport City North area, designed as a compact and attractive location for both aviation and non-aviation activities. This space combines a modern urban environment with user-friendly green areas. Historical elements of the built environment have been sensitively integrated into the new layout, creating reference points and a clear spatial logic.
Concept for 50 years
The urban concept of Airport City North – Aviatická includes three main zones: center, service, and business, complemented by a fourth zone, the gate. These zones form a clear urban structure for the area and are interconnected by a new and robust transportation infrastructure, with most activities closely tied to air transport. This creates a functional synergy that ensures optimal use of space, transforming Prague Airport into a fully developed, airport-friendly city – the Airport City.
A key factor of the future accessibility of Airport city North is the railway system. The underground railway station, placed in the center of the construction under the main promenade, will ensure simple access to the terminal. The ground transportation infrastructure has a completely new design to ensure maximum safety efficiency for it’s travelers. MHD, taxis and other shared modes of transport are placed on the surface, at the level of the ground floor terminal, with individual automobile traffic being placed on a trestle, one level higher.
"Sustainable evelopmental strategy for the next 30 years"
The final result will be Airport city North being perceived as a compact yet permanently sustainable destination interconnected with air traffic, as a place with positive energy seeped in greenery and modern construction, which is easily accessible for all.
