A snowy hill, a mountain meadow, and a rocky moraine. These symbols of Krkonoše National Park are fused into two masses in the heart of Pec under Sněžka, which undertake the roles of the location’s symbols.
The apartment building Šiška v Peci under Sněžka is a project with the potential to become a valuable symbol of the region and the Czech Republic. The architecturally- urbanistic solution derives from the concept of two deceptively similar objects, which are strongly connected and form an inseparable whole. The main object, a symbol of the space, ties it together while catching the eye, whereas the smaller object softens the main’s dominance. The design is inspired by natural motifs, specifically the growth stages of pinecones, which are located as statues on a nearby hill’s field, the current spacial dominants.
Under the pinecones is an extensive cultural and congress center, including a congress hall, music club, salons, and other functions replacing the original buildings- legendary club Klondike, which moved it’s base of operations into the new building. The center’s underground contains the hotel’s base, wellness, and the parking lot. The distinctive features are the roof terraces, serving the visitors as centers for relaxing. The project is designed with the goal of creating a local dominant at the arrival into Pec and an elevation of local mountain architecture to a new level with the help of functional synergy and the flood of life even outside of the main tourist season.
