The design of the new learning center of the Third Faculty of Medicine of Charles University is based on the pavilion layout of the State Health Institute campus. It is proposed to preserve the garden to the greatest extent possible by raising the garden above the ground floor and creating a roof garden. The ground floor with more public functions is partially embedded in the terrain and integrated into the restored fencing and tree line from the south side. On this pedestal stands a receding three-story university pavilion with classrooms and a glass facade. The proposal is not dreamy, but on the contrary completely rational. The larger pedestal and receding pavilion optically reduce the volume of the building with an otherwise rich interior program and lighted atrium.
The agora with exterior staircase seating is a new public space which continues to the entrance hall and the library of the new learning center. The transparency of the symbolic fencing of the agora and the facade of the university library opens the university campus to its surroundings. Thanks to the shadows of the trees and the outdoor seating, this representative public space will be a pleasant place for meeting, self-study and relaxation at any time of the year.
