The expansion of the existing Duhovka Elementary school will bring not only the possibility of increasing the capacity of the school by the 2nd grade, but also an increase in the quality of services and comfort for pupils and staff. The extension includes modern classrooms with the necessary equipment and a new spacious gymnasium. The emphasis is mainly on the friendliness and coziness of each space, which is why wood is the main chosen material for interior. Large glazed areas bring enough light inside and connect the interior with the exterior. The expansion also includes modernization of the building, and therefore greater attractiveness for future pupils interested in studying.
The design of the extension is based on the location and building-layout limits. The effort was to minimize the impact on the surroundings. The extension is therefore designed only as a single-storey and set back from the floor plan of the existing building. Thanks to this concept, we offered the possibility of using the existing roofs of the risalites and the new gymnasium as living terraces, whether for teaching or leisure activities of pupils and teachers. The gymnasium building encloses the private area of the school from the west side and protects it from sight and noise from the surroundings. It opens towards the garden and offers a unique connection of the interior space of the gym with the garden and the adjoining outdoor playground.
